59E59 Theaters Welcomes Trippy, Erotically Charged IN THE SUMMER PAVILION, 10/12 - 11/3

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) welcomes the 2011 FringeNYC critically acclaimed play IN THE SUMMER PAVILION, written by Paul David Young and directed by Kathy Gail MacGowan. Produced by Go In Her Room Productions, in association with the WorkShop Theater Company, IN THE SUMMER PAVILION begins performances on Friday, October 12th for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 3rd. Press opening is Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members). What if there were multiple futures and you could see them all at once? At a Maine summerhouse, three recent Princeton grads are repeatedly hurtled forward in time to see multiple?selves and futures. The hedonism and fluid sexuality of their idealistic youth twist in this mind-bending love triangle.

A Backstage “Critic’s Pick” during the 2011 NY International Fringe Festival, IN THE SUMMER PAVILION garnered critical praise. The play was recently adapted and directed for the screen by playwright Young, and executive produced by Lisa Cortes (two-time Academy-Award winner Precious).

The cast features Ryan Barry, Meena Dimian, and Rachel Mewbron. The design team includes Kia Rogers (lighting design) and Julian Evans (sound design). The stage manager is Bethany Ellen Clark.

Paul David Young (playwright) won the Kennedy Center’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award. He has been produced at MoMA PS1, Marlborough Gallery, the Living Theatre, Lion Theatre, Kraine Theater and the Red Room, and at the Kaffileikhusid in Reykjavik. The Kerr Fellow at the Millay Colony, the Pearlman Fellow at Djerassi, and a Fulbright Scholar in Germany, he graduated from Yale College, Columbia Law School, and New School for Drama. He is a Contributing Editor at PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art (MIT Press) and writes for Art in America. His translation, with Carl Weber, of Heiner Müller’s Anatomy Titus Fall of Rome will be published in 2012. PAJ/MIT Pressis will issue his book, Turning Theatre into Art, in 2013. He directed and wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of In the Summer Pavilion, to be released in 2013, Executive Producer Lisa Cortes (two-time Academy-Award winner Precious).

Kathy Gail MacGowan’s (director) recent NY credits include The Lover by Harold Pinter and Eden by Eugene O'Brien, Abingdon Theater; Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, The Stella Adler Studio; In The Summer Pavilion by Paul David Young, NY International Fringe Festival (Backstage Critic's Pick); Rumpelstiltskin, The WorkShop Theater (adaptation and direction). Festival Winners: Crossing Borders by Pat Montley and The Enlightenment of Mrs Cartwell by Daniel Damiano (Estrogenius, MTS); Seal Songs by Jennifer Fell Hayes (MITF, Outstanding Award Nominee); Gifted Child by Eddie Entar (The Network, Best Director nominee). Samuel French OOBR Festival Final Forty: HR by Eric Coble ('10), Seal Song by Jennifer Hayes ('09), and upcoming The Fatwa of Johnny Jones by Greg Oliver Bodine. Kathy was a 2010 Drama League Directing Finalist; MFA The New School for Drama 2009.
