7th Annual soloNOVA Arts Festival Extended at PS122, May 26-June 6

7th_Annual_soloNOVA_Arts_Festival_Extended_at_PS122_20010101

terraNOVA Collective is thrilled to announce the extension of four shows from the 7th Annual soloNOVA Arts Festival, the premier festival for solo performers in New York City.

"We are very happy Performance Space 122 approached terraNOVA to extend these artistically wonderful solo performers. It's a great representation of this year's festival, featuring a comedy, a musical, a multi-character play and dance," says Jennifer Conley Darling, Artistic Director of terraNOVA Collective. "And to add such an amazing performer as Jack Ferver to be part of this extension week will only bring further hilarity to an already fabulous line-up."

The festival celebrates innovative individuals who push the boundaries of what it means to be an artist, aims to redefine the solo form and uniquely invigorates the audience through the time-honored tradition of storytelling.

The soloNOVA Breakthrough Performer Extension will run May 26-June 6 at Performance Space 122 (150 1st Ave at 9th Street). Tickets ($20: soloNOVA shows, $15: NOTES!!!) are available online at www.ps122.org or by calling 212-352-3101.

THE W. KAMAU BELL CURVE: ENDING RACISM IN ABOUT AN HOUR
Written & Performed by W. Kamau Bell
Directed by Paul Stein
MAY 26, 27 & JUNE 2, 3 @ 8PM
MAY 30 @ 6PM
JUNE 4 @ 6PM
Black President or not, racism continues to make a comeback. And W. Kamau Bell is here to make (non)sense of it all. Irreverent and thoughtful, The W. Kamau Bell Curve skewers pop culture, news pundits and the man himself, Barack Obama. According to Comedy Central, Kamau told the very first Obama joke way back in 2005. Bring a friend of a different race and get two for one admission!

"Thicken your skin, turn on your funny bone, and go find out! Highly recommended!"
Martin Denton, nytheatre.com

"W. Kamau Bell is the most important guy doing comedy right now. Do yourself a favor and go see him. He's got the most astute, hilarious and completely righteous material going and he's going to be a legend in his own lifetime like Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce. Think Bill Hicks but slightly taller." Margaret Cho

PUPPY LOVE: A STRIPPER'S TAIL
Written & Performed by Erin Markey
MAY 26, 29 & JUNE 2 @ 10PM
JUNE 4, 5 & 6 @ 8PM
In her new musical, Erin Markey reveals the details of her graceless debut into the world of professional performance - as a stripper at Déjà Vu in Ypsilanti, MI. Assuming the stage name Bridget, after the patron saint of babies, Erin must learn to navigate the lap-dances, lawnmowers, and hot girl-on-girl bromances of southeastern Michigan. Pole-dancing and delusions of diaper-changing threaten to consume Erin's dreams of becoming an artist as her alterego Bridget falls in love with the money she makes and the dancer who inspired her to make it.

"Bizarre, character-shifting performance artist Erin Markey is so totally out there that she fits in perfectly with the OHP aesthetic. Key song: A funny-creepy version of Jeremiah's ‘Birthday Sex,' performed in the diaper, bonnet, bib and voice of a newborn baby." Adam Feldman, Time Out NY
Erin's embodiment of the male customer, all while spinning around upside down on a stripper pole and playing a tiny piano, is breathtaking, astounding and some of the best moments I've seen on stage in a long time. Run, don't walk, to catch one of the remaining performances." AKA William, akawilliam.com

MONSTER
Written by Daniel MacIvor
Directed by Steve Cook
Performed by Avery Pearson
MAY 29 & 30 @ 8PM
MAY 28 & JUNE 4 @ 10PM
JUNE 5 @ 4PM
Daniel MacIvor's celebrated chiller returns to the New York stage with Avery Pearson stepping into the skin of 16 characters. Peeling back psychological layers to reveal the heart of an individual experience, MONSTER dissects the true nature of evil.

'Monster is Mr. MacIvor's suggestion that the dark side is as intrinsic to our natures as consciousness itself. It not only aspires to creeping you out, it also wants you to examine your own voyeuristic impulse to keep staring after the ax falls." The New York Times
"...as this dark yet surprisingly funny story unfolds, it is easy to let yourself get wrapped up in Pearson's performance -- just don't forget to pay attention to the disjointedly twisted story being told." Daniel Lehman, Backstage

BINDING
Conceived & Performed by Jesse Zaritt
Directed by Basmat Hazan
Produced by Theatre C
MAY 27 @ 10PM
MAY 28 @ 8PM
MAY 29 @ 6PM
Violent. Tender. Erotic. Submissive. Abandoned. The worlds of pop music, myth and video collide in Jesse Zaritt's movement-based quest for love, connection and the self.
