Brooklyn Arts Exchange Announces 2013 BAX Arts & Artists in Progress Award Nominees

Brooklyn-Arts-Exchange-Announces-2013-BAX-Arts-Artists-in-Progress-Award-Nominees-20010101

The BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange arts and artists in progress awards, now in their twelfth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change they have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others. The awards have been given to some of the most talented, generous, creative and inventive individuals in NYC dance, theater or performance.

The awards are divided into three areas: Performing Artist, Arts Educator, Arts Manager. Many individuals who have received the awards over this past decade fit in more than one category but are honored for a particular focus of their work.

Nominations for the 2013 awards were sought from over 100 past awardees, presenters and members of the field. Final selections will be announced no later than November 1, 2012.

The nominees are:

Performing Artists
Ellen Fisher, Sybil Kempson, Young Jean Lee, Frank London, Vicky Schick, Jawole Jo Zollar.

Arts Educators
Eric Booth, Julie Brockway, Donna Costello, Paul King, Richard Lewis, Barbara Mahler, Mac Wellman.

Arts Managers
Catherine Pella, Doug Post, Lucy Sexton, Jim Staley, Janet Stapleton.

Each awardee is asked to "pass it on". The PASSING IT ON AWARD creates a complete cycle where a panel of peers chooses the awardees and the awardees choose someone who demonstrates some of the same qualities that they, themselves, were chosen for.

This year's awards will take place at BAX's home site 421 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday March 23, 2013.
