Critically acclaimed theater troupe PigPen Theatre Co. celebrates its move to New York City with the October 4 opening of its brand new production, The Old Man and The Old Moon, co-produced by Britt Lafield/BKL Productions and SoHo Playhouse, Inc. at The Gym at Judson (located in the iconic Judson Memorial Church). The only company to win top honors at the New York International Fringe Festival two years in a row (in 2010 for The Nightmare Story and in 2011 for The Mountain Song), PigPen's seven members met as students at Carnegie Mellon University and officially formed the company in 2008. See below for full production details.

In conjunction with the Off-Broadway debut of The Old Man and The Old Moon, PigPen will widely re-release their first album, Bremen-a collection of original indie-folk compositions first released to friends and supporters of the company in April 2012-on October 9. PigPen's musical pursuits are a natural outgrowth of their works for the stage, and all of Bremen's 11 tracks bear the company's trademark storytelling voice and instrumentations by each of the group's seven members. Many of the songs on Bremen have been featured in PigPen's plays (including several from The Old Man and The Old Moon), though they are filled out and fully realized on the album in ways they could not be heard on stage. In support of the re-release, the group will play a series of shows at Joe's Pub beginning October 15. See below for full album and show details.

Finally, in anticipation of the new production and the album's re-release PigPen, in partnership with Buffalo Picture House, is premiering an animated trailer featuring the album's title track at http://youtu.be/04YWdtHrtIE.

PigPen first professionally performed original work at a community theater in Chicago, and since have gone on to perform at New York's famous Barrow Street Theatre, the Boston Center for the Arts and The Irondale Center in Brooklyn. PigPen has sold out theaters nationwide with its shows The Nightmare Story and The Mountain Song and made best-of lists on The Huffington Post and Time Out New York.

The Old Man and the Old Moon is the tale of an old man-the moon's caretaker-who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon every month to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. The production features PigPen's signature blend of original music, shadow puppetry, live action and clever lighting effects, and marks the company's first large-scale Off-Broadway production. The Old Man and the Old Moon is a co-production of Britt Lafield/BKL Productions and SoHo Playhouse Inc.
