Gustavo Pace's NAKED BRAZILIAN Set for Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity June 5-17

Planet Connections Theatre Festivity will present Naked Brazilian, written and performed by Gustavo Pace, as part of the 4th Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. The Festivity will take place May 30th through June 24th at Culture Project, 45 Bleeker Street in New York City. Ticket $18. Naked Brazilian is playing at Culture Project (Downstairs) in a limited run: Tuesday, June 5th @ 6pm; Friday, June 8th @ 8:30pm; Sunday, June 10th @ 4pm; and Sunday, June 17th @ 3pm, 2012.

Naked Brazilian written and performed by Gustavo Pace and directed by Lou Liberatore who has received Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award Nominations as actor in the play “BURN THIS” on Broadway. The show features lighting design by Joyce Liao.

Naked Brazilian is the story of a young man with the dream of being a clown and to make people happy. During his life in Rio de Janeiro the hero confront several obstacles, including the drunk and repressor father who would like him to be a lawyer. He pursues the dream of being like the Marx Brothers and other actors from the old black and white comedy films. The play presents a series of characters such as the Brazilian malandro, the unstable therapist, the disgusting father, the slams mafia and finally the classical comedy actors. The play discusses challenges and risks of pursuing the dreams against a safe and boring comfortable life.

Naked Brazilian was developed in a workshop with award-winning playwright/teacher Matt Hoverman and combines physical comedy and clown. Performances of Naked Brazilian will benefit the United Nations Environment Programme whose mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

Writer and Performer: Gustavo Pace is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is an actor, writer, performer, singer. A graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC, he also studied in the Curso Profissionalizante de Ator – Casa de Artes de Laranjeiras (Professional Theater Course for Actors), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Neutral Mask, Clown and Lecoq workshops, at the Movement Theater Studio, NYC. Physical Comedy, Mime/ Clown and Commedia Dell’ Art at the Funny School of Good Acting. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree from the Law School at Pontifical Catholic University, Rio de Janeiro. He performed in Waiting for Godot (Estragon) and King Lear (Clown) at Place of Arts, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He performed his original material at Whoa Variety Show at Triskelion Arts and Tinydangerounsfun at Sycamore, Gotham Comedy Club, Bindlestiff Family Circus at Dixon Place, All-Star Storytellers Night at The Gallery / LPR and acted in a off Broadway comedy show. He performed at Tribeca Performing Arts in ”Writers in Performance”. Gustavo is excited to create a new show with the award-winning writer/performer Slash Coleman.
