HOWL! Arts Project Presents SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) 10/22

HOWL-Arts-Project-Presents-SUN-AUDIO-MOVIE-20010101

HOWL! Arts Project 2011, The Actors Fund, and Jim Rado's In the Dark Theater present SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) - the only full-length musical, other than HAIR, written by Tony Award-nominees James Rado and Gerome Ragni, with music by Steve Margoshes, composer of FAME: THE MUSICAL -- on Saturday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m. at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place).

Introduced by James Rado, SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) is a unique theatrical and listening experience featuring a recording from the Theatrical Laboratory of James Rado, presented completely in the dark. SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) recounts a comic-Orwellian epic struggle between the nuclear
gods and the natural gods. Addressing themes of good vs. evil, distress and unrest, Rado and Ragni use the icons, myths, and fables of humanity's past, present, and future.

Warning: No moving around. Stay in your seat. Sit in the dark. You will be enlightened!

James Rado and Gerome Ragni's landmark musical HAIR: THE AMERICAN TRIBAL LOVE-ROCK MUSICAL opened Off-Broadway in October 1967. HAIR, which celebrates the rebellious youth culture of the 1960s, transferred to Broadway in April 1968, running 1,750 performances and
spawning numerous productions and subsequent revivals worldwide. A film adaptation was released in 1979, starring Treat Williams and Beverly D'Angelo, directed by Milos Forman. Among its most popular songs are "Aquarius" and "Good Morning Starshine." The 2009 Broadway
revival of HAIR garnered the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Since Ragni death in 1991, Rado has been active in redeveloping SUN (AUDIO MOVIE).

Steve Margoshes composed FAME: THE MUSICAL, a stage adaptation of the 1980 film "Fame," with book by Jose Fernandez and lyrics by Jacques Levy. On Broadway, Margoshes has orchestrated LESTAT, GOOD VIBRATIONS, TABOO, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, AIDA, THE WHO'S TOMMY, and FALSETTOS, among others. Margoshes has written literally hundreds of songs with Rado and Ragni, including SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) and the concert piece "Jack Sound and His Dog Star Blowing His Final Trumpet on the Day of Doom."

HOWL! ARTS PROJECT 2011 - a unique month-long series of theater, performance art, music, dance, poetry, comedy, entertainment for the entire family, and much more - runs October 1-31 at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place). Proceeds benefit HOWL! HELP, an emergency services
assistance and health fund for eligible and qualifying East Village artists, administered by The Actors Fund.

Upcoming events include the return of San Francisco's Thrillpeddlers in VICE PALACE: THE LAST COCKETTES MUSICAL (Oct 21-22); Rosie's Theater Kids in STUDENTS ON STRIKE (Oct 22 & 29); POETS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND PEACE (Oct 23); Manhattan Theatre Club's readings of Laura
Marks' BETHANY (Oct 24); Robert I. Rubinsky's CYCLONE SEASON starring Helen Hanft (Oct 26); 3 Teens Kill 4's IN PEACE & WAR (Oct 27-29); and a reading of Michael W. Small's STEve Cohen (Oct 26), plus an all-star Halloween party presented by Jackie Factory (Oct 31), burlesque, music, dance and much more throughout October.

SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) runs as part of HOWL! Arts Project 2011 at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) on Saturday, October 22 at 8:00PM. Tickets are $15 and available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/e/201548. Cash only at the door.
