INADMISSIBLE Receives World Premiere at Canal Park Playhouse

INADMISSABLE-Receives-World-Premiere-at-Canal-Park-Playhouse-20010101

Canal Park Playhouse presents World Premiere of INADMISSIBLE, a dark comedy about the Machiavellian realties of the college admission process by D.B. Gilles. Directed by Sherri Eden Barber, INADMISSABLE begins performances on Wednesday, January 25 for a limited engagement through Saturday, February 18. Press Opening is Wednesday, February 1 at 7:30 PM. Performances take place at Canal Park Playhouse (508 Canal Street, between Greenwich and West Streets in Tribeca). The performance schedule is Wednesday – Saturday at 7:30 PM. The regular ticket price is $18. For tickets or more information, call OvationTix on 1-866-811-4111 or visit www.canalparkplayhouse.com.

Think only the best and brightest get into the elite universities? Think again. INADMISSIBLE is a wickedly funny, insider look at the backroom deals made by an admissions committee at a university striving to make it into the Top 10. An eye-popping, tragicomic look at the business of higher education.

The cast features Charise Greene (Psyche at EST; It Was a Set Up, by Kirk Wood Bromley, Inverse Theatre Company), Richard Hoehler as Martin (Fathers and Sons at The Lion; Detective Barnes on Third Watch), and Kathryn Kates (founding member of The Colony Theatre in Los Angles, The Babka Lady from Seinfeld).

The design team includes Clinton Chadick (set and props); Jeffrey Small (lights); and Casey Malone (costumes). The production stage manager is Heather Cooper.

D.B. Gilles (playwright) is the author of The Screenwriter Within and You’re Funny! Turn Your Sense of Humor Into A Lucrative New Career. He teaches comedy writing for television and screenwriting in the Kanbar Institute of Undergraduate Film & Television, Tisch, New York University. He is a produced and published playwright, screenwriter and TV writer. Four of his plays are published by Dramatists Play Service. His play, Sparkling Object, was the premier production of The Canal Park Playhouse in 2010. He writes the screenwriting blog SCREENWRITERS REHAB: For Screenwriters Who Can’t Get Their Acts Together. He is a member of The Writers Guild of America and The Dramatists Guild.

Sherri Eden Barber’s (director) NYC directing credits include: Herman Kline’s Midlife Crisis by Josh Koenigsberg (The Beckett Theatre, Theatre Row); Tapefaces: Legend of a Kung Fu Master by Jon Kern (Ars Nova/Ant Fest 2011); Dance Lessons by Josh Koenigsberg (The Lion Theatre/Samuel French Festival); Empire of the Trees by Adam Kraar (Abingdon Theatre, NY IT Award Nomination); Jason Grote’s Hylan Boulevard, with Annabella Sciorri (Atlantic Theater/At Play Productions at the Atlantic Theater); Bekah Brunstetter’s How to Quit Smoking (Atlantic Theater/Old Vic New Voices); Sometimes After Dinner by Daniel Talbott (Ensemble Studio Theatre); and Where We Are Right Now by Harrison Rivers (The Pink Campaign on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre). Readings include Harrison Rivers’ The Bandaged Place (New York Theatre Workshop); Sonderkomman by Kenneth Emson (The Old Vic); and Jessica Hinds’ Definition of Violence (Primary Stages). A Drama League Directing Fellow, she was awarded the Old Vic New Voices US/UK Exchange Directing Position to develop and direct new work in London at The Old Vic and is founding company member of At Play Productions, in association with Kevin Spacey and The 24 Hour Company.
