CLASS DESCRIPTION:
There are many ways to create successful long form improv scenes, but creating solid relationships is one of the surest bets. This workshop will focus on creating a strong, believable and clear emotional dynamic between two characters FIRST before anything else is established, then justifying that dynamic through the circumstances of the scene (the event of the scene, character history and philosophy). After warming up, the first half of the workshop will consist of scene work where the improvisers will use a simplified version of the Meisner repetition exercise in order to find the truth of their character's emotional dynamic through eye contact and agreement. This technique helps the improvisers lock on to the emotionally vulnerable party in a scene in order to heighten that vulnerability. The second half of the workshop will be practice at that heightening by identifying the event of the scene and using the improviser's tools of character history, philosophy and metaphor. And, as always, this will all be done in the spirit of play.

This is a great way to work when at a Theater, Film or Commercial audition and you have to use your own emotions as a "spring board."

RICH HOLLMAN (AEA, SAG-AFTRA) completed his MFA in acting in 2004 at New School University, where he began a part time professorship in the Fall of 2012, and began studying improv at the People's Improv Theater (The PIT) in 2007 where he performs weekly with Saturday night PIT house team THE BALDWINS and house musical team DAGGER. He is also on the PIT Faculty and teaches at The New School. Additionally, Rich performs with the touring company of the premiere musical improv team BABY WANTS CANDY. Rich has performed off- and off-off Broadway in such theaters as the Cherry Lane, La MaMa Etc., and the Lucille Lortel. In addition to appearing in several short films and pilots (SF Indiefest, NY Television Festival), Rich has also been seen playing principal roles on "Law and Order" and "As The World Turns" as well as in recurring roles on "Guiding Light" and "All My Children." He's played leads the last three seasons at Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, CT, twice under the direction of Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely.

Reserve your space HERE, or by emailing IRTEinfo@gmail.com and paying via Pay Pal. Cost: $25 per person (+ $1.05 Pay Pal Processing Fee). This class is a Fundraiser, all the proceeds go to funding the IRTE's second season.
