LESBIAN LOVE OCTAGON Seeks 2013 Run at The Kraine Theater

LESBIAN LOVE OCTAGON, described as a musical comedy about dyke drama, has joined the crowd-sourcing platform Indiegogo to help fund it's 2013 run at The Kraine Theater. The musical's writers Kim Kressal and Will Larche took the idea of a pitch video a step further; the team wrote, recorded, staged and filmed a go-go inspired musical number to plea their case to potential backers. The pitch starts out innocently enough with Kressal and Larche asking for support, but the pair is quickly replaced by two actors playing them, who sing and go-go dance their way through the campaign's nuts and bolts. Overflowing with jokes about the cost of lesbian themed props (dildos) and costumes (biker boots and studded belts), they also include a direct plea to famous lesbians "Someone tell Rosie, Ellen and Wanda Sykes." And they don't just want the gay dollar, as one actress earnestly sings to a straight couple "give cause you feel guilty that we don't have civil rights." The perks for supporters range from the musical's CD to original sheet music and costume sketches, even a shot to guest star in the show. With clever donor level names ($10 is "One Time In College", $10,000 is "More Gaymous Than Ellen") the campaign certainly caters to its lesbian base, but the show itself is for everyone. In their IndieGoGo Campaign the writers say "Lesbian Love Octagon is indeed a love letter to the lesbian community, but it also crosses boundaries of sexuality, breaks down walls of intolerance, and offers up a truly universal love story."

As for the inspiration for the video Kressal said "The bar is constantly being raised in crowd-sourcing campaigns, but we hadn't seen anyone do something like this before. We wanted to stand-out and to have fun." Kressal admits that the Indiegogo song isn't in the same genre as LESBIAN LOVE OCTAGON. "Our show is set in the late 90s, but we couldn't help utilizing the go-go theme since it's for IndieGogo." Set in the late 90s on the Lower East Side of New York City, LESBIAN LOVE OCTAGON follows the journey of Sue, a less than butch dyke with a broken heart, as she tries to cope with losing her girlfriend to her ex-girlfriend. When Sue's friends (a bevy of ex-girlfriends and ex-girlfriends' ex-girlfriends) come rushing to her aid, they incite a tempest of lust and betrayal as they try to convince Sue that the answer to happiness exists in polyamory, pomade, and online personals.
