Martin Halpern'S NEW CHAMBER OPERA 'THE SCAFFOLDING' freely based on Henrik Ibsen's "The Master Builder"
November 1-3 at 8 PM; November 4 at 3 PM

Composer/librettist Martin Halpern will premiere his two-act chamber opera "The Scaffolding," freely based on Ibsen's "The Master Builders," centering around the strange love affair between the young Hilde Wungel and the famous middle-aged architect Halvard Solness, whom she has idolized since they met ten years earlier. Singers are Jacqueline Noparstak, John Jay Hebert, Jim Trainor, and Leslie Middlebrook, accompanied by pianist Earl Buys. Stage direction by Jamibeth Margolis; music direction by Martin Halpern.

Final performance of Triple Shadow's evocative solo adaptations of plays whose themes are based on stories of the sea: Dylan Thomas's "Holiday Memory," performed by Seamus Maynard; and John Millington Synge's "Riders to the Sea," performed by Mari Andrejco. Films of the sea accompany the works, and Edward Herbst performs live his music for toy piano, harmonium, and mandolin, along with traditional Irish folksongs. Director is Beth Skinner, lighting design is by Bessie and Drama Desk winner Paul Clay (RENT), and scenic design is by Obie winner Jun Maeda.

Roberto Villanueva presents an all-new program of his BalaSole Dance Company, presenting talented young dancer/choreographers Lauren Alpert, Elijah Avraham, Nicole Calabrese, Caitlyn Casson, Sarah Ewing, Aaron Gregory, Morgana Rose Mellett, Emily Pacilio, Gina Pero and emerging artist Kyla Healey, joined by Villanueva.

Yuki Hasegawa presents new works by her and guest choreographers Juri Nishio, Kanako Yokota, and twin dancer/choreographers Hsiao-Ting and Hsiao-Wei Hsieh. The company's style is a robust blend of contemporary dance, theatrically costumed and performed to music by contemporary Asian composers.

Uruguayan pianist Polly Ferman presents the stunning GlamourTango, with an all-woman cast of musicians and dancers from Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Israel, Montreal and Germany, paying tribute to the, until now unheralded, contributions of women to the art of Tango. Fascinating rarely seen early tango films will also be shown. Guest singer is Argentina's Roxana Fontan; choreographer is Mariana Parma.

Caitlin Trainor presents a program of premieres and repertory works set to music by contemporary composers Robert Boston, Marlon Cherry, Paul Lansky and So Percussion. Her dances feature a spirited and technically demanding style, and subjects range from use of the square as a focus point to a witty re-enactment of mating habits of the tree frog, danced to a nature show study.
