Performing Garage Welcomes Findlay//Sandsmark's FRACTURED BONES/LET'S GET LOST, 9/5-9

The Performing Garage presents Findlay//Sandsmark's "fractured bones/let's get lost" in its U.S. premiere, September 5-9, 2012 at 8 p.m.

Findlay//Sandsmark is the Norway-based performance company created by acclaimed theatre and video artist and Collapsable Giraffe co-founder Iver Findlay and choreographer and dancer Marit Sandsmark (Artist of the Year, Stavanger, Norway, 2006). With “fractured bones/ let’s get lost”, they conspire with performers Eric Dyer of Radiohole and video game modder Victor E. Morales, collecting and culling impulses to disappear. Together they generate a high octane and moving performance that integrates theatre, dance, live music and video installation to craft a slippery and nebulous take on futurism.

“fractured bones/ let’s get lost” is an energetic performance meditation on disappearance and presence. It takes the Flitcraft parable about a ‘disappearer’ from Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon” and Jean-Luc Godard’s futuristic classic “Alphaville” as a starting point to investigate the idea of object permanence and performance while picking apart hard-boiled motifs to create a dialectic between the present and the future, the interior and the exterior. The performance is set across a landscape of projections and trashed video monitors revealing a discourse between the natural and synthetic.

Performances of “fractured bones/ let’s get lost” will take place Wednesday - Sunday, September 5 - 9 at 8:00 P.M., at The Performing Garage (33 Wooster Street, New York, NY 10013). All tickets are $20 and may be purchased by calling 212-966-3651 or emailing mail@thewoostergroup.org.

Findlay//Sandsmark is a Stavanger, Norway based performance company working across the disciplines of dance, theatre, live music, and video art. They have made two large scale performances- “now and nowhere else” (U.S. Premiere: Performance Space 122, 2010) and “fractured bones/ let’s get lost” which was presented by Oslo’s Black Box Teater as part of the Ultima Festival, as well as Tou Scene in Stavanger. “fractured bones/let’s get lost” will also be presented at Teaterhust Avant Garden in Trondheim, Norway at the end of September.

Their new project, “biograph- last year was pretty/shitty”, a collaboration with artist/performer Joe Truman and playwright/director Young Jean Lee, will premiere in early 2013, and is co-produced by Black Box Teater in Oslo, BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen , and Tou Scene in Stavanger. Findlay//Sandsmark will create a short piece for the DOGMA project as part of Oktoberdans, the international dance festival at BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen in Fall 2012.

Iver Findlay (creator/director) is an artist, director and designer working across, and in between, the fields of experimental theater (scenekunst), video art, and sound art. Based in Stavanger, Norway he has recently worked as a creator, director, collaborator, and video artist for a number of international and Norwegian projects, along with producing his own work. He also created and directed the project “now and nowhere else” (Tou Scene, Stavanger and PS 122, N.Y.C., 2010). Prior to his arrival in Norway in 2008 he had been making work, installations and performances in New York for over 13 years, individually and in collaboration with a number of well-known experimental theater companies. He has been involved as a core creator for the Collapsable Giraffe’s multimedia performance work since co-founding the Brooklyn-based company in 1995. Recent performances include Pee Pee Maw Maw, Letters from the Earth, and Meat is Floating by, among others.

Other recent work includes collaborating with Radiohole on “Anger/Nation” in 2008, as a co-creator, video designer and performer, with performances at The Kitchen (New York), the Donau Festival (Austria), and Noorderzon Festival (Holland). He also contributed video to Radiohole’s “Fluke” and co-created/performed in “Bend Your Mind Off”, a joint project between Radiohole and the Collapsable Giraffe, which inaugurated the notorious New York performance space Collapsable Hole, of which he is a co-founder. He has recently co-created pieces with choreographer Diane Madden, writer/director Young Jean Lee, and director Goro Tronsmo. He has worked as a video artist/ designer/ programmer and sound artist for the Wooster Group, Ridge Theater, and the Riot Group, amongst several others. He was an artistic associate of the Wooster Group, where he worked for over 6 years as a video and sound artist, being involved in their performances between 2001-2006 and touring a number of shows to several international cities and festivals.
