The current touring show, "Isaiah's Dream -- A Parade of Poets" continues to dazzle audiences throughout the boroughs, including a recent performance at the Carroll Gardens Public Library (Brooklyn) for 10th graders. The students were studying and learning to write poetry, so it was of special interest to them. A wonderful audience overall, including the teachers.
On August 17 at 3:30 p.m., there will be a Creative Dramatics Workshop, team-taught by company members Richard Pryor Jr. and Kenny Wade Marshall at the Jamaica Bay Public Library (Brooklyn). We are now booking performances for minority organizations and poetry clubs at NE universities.
"ISAIAH'S DREAM - A Parade of Poets" centers on a Harlem boy visited by poets from around the world and throughout time. The show is appealing to people of all ages. A cast of four women of diverse backgrounds brings to life such poets as Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Pablo Neruda, Julia de Burgos, Rabindranath Tagore, Etheridge Knight, Rumi, Wu Men, and others. The rich linguistic text is brought to life through dance, choreographed movement, percussion, music, and interaction with the audience.
Written by NY Artists Unlimited artistic director Melba LaRose ("Little Red - Girl from the Hood," "Ebony Black") and directed by Kenny Wade Marshall ("Bitterella," "Playthings"), this is a story about a boy finding his own voice in a poem about Martin Luther King. Based on a real African-American child who attended the company's workshops and created the poem, the play is sure to inspire children and touch the hearts of people of all ages. Performances are followed by in-depth discussions with the audience and photo ops with the cast. Check the website for UPCOMING PERFORMANCES: www.NYartists.org
