From South Africa comes a stage adaptation of "Sacred Elephant" by Heathcote Williams, acted by Jeremy Crutchley, a multi award-winning actor of stage and screen, directed by Geoffrey Hyland.

"Sacred Elephant" is the second of four famed, influential epic poems Williams has written protesting the slaughter of large mammals. It was preceded by "Whale Nation" (1988) and followed by "Falling for a Dolphin" (1990) and "Autogeddon" (1991), an attack on car culture.

Actor Jeremy Crutchley is well known in South Africa and the U.K., having performed a diverse range of award-winning contemporary and classic roles. He has received many Best Actor National Theatre Awards in South Africa and has appeared with the RSC and in the West End. He was named Best Actor in the South African Film & TV Awards for his leading role in "Retribution" (2011), a thriller in the style of Cape Fear. In 2014, he'll appear in the U.S. TV series "Black Sails." He resumes his role as The Glock, with John Cleese in the feature film "Spud: The Madness Continues," to be released in 2013.

"Sacred Elephant" premiered in Capetown and to-date has received three Nominations at the 2013 Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards: Best Actor, Best Solo Performance and Best Costume Design. The presentation at La MaMa is the show's American premiere.
