Spotlight Theatre Productions just announced that their spring musical will be Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS. Auditions are open and will take place February 6 and 9 at 7:30pm-9:30pm, with callbacks on February 11 at 9am-12:30pm at the Peekskill Senior Center. Performances will take place April 13-22. Classic Fairy Tales come to life with a bit of a twist in INTO THE WOODS. Stephen Sondheim’s celebrated creation is a new classic for our times. An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding hood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in this fractured fairy tale. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as lively irreverent fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children with such memorable songs as Children Will Listen, Hello Little Girl, A Very Nice Prince, Giants in the Sky and many more.
