The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Concerts & Lectures department will present Tablaphilia, a tabla (Indian drum) symphony, as part of the events planned by the Met for Museum Mile, the special evening of free admission to the public at all museums on Fifth Avenue from 82nd Street to 105th Street on Tuesday, June 14. Composed and conducted by Samir Chatterjee, Tablaphilia will be performed on the Museum's front steps at 6:30 p.m. by 22 musicians playing more than 50 tablas, with four vocalists. The work is a musical interpretation of the four stages of life (asharamas) in Hindu philosophy. In case of rain, the performance will take place indoors.

Tablaphilia was programmed for the Met by its new General Manager of Concerts & Lectures, Limor Tomer, who began working at the Museum on May 2.
