THE FALL TO EARTH Drops Into NYC at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) will welcome InProximity Theatre Company with the New York City premiere of THE FALL TO EARTH, written by Joel Drake Johnson and directed by Joe Brancato. THE FALL TO EARTH begins performances on Friday, January 13 for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 5. Press opening is Wednesday, January 18 at 7:15 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday – Thursday at 7:15 PM; Friday at 8:15 PM; Saturday at 2:15 PM and 8:15 PM; and Sunday at 3:15 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues).

Kenny lived his life in secret. These secrets lead his mother and sister to an unfamiliar town looking for answers. With the help of a local policewoman, they uncover tragic truths about him, their family and themselves.

This penetrating new play by Chicago playwright Joel Drake Johnson received its World Premiere at Steppenwolf.

THE FALL TO EARTH features Amelia Campbell (Tony nominee for Our Country’s Good), Deborah Hedwall (Obie Award-winner and Drama Desk nominee for Sight Unseen at MTC) and Jolie Curtsinger (Navy Pier on Theatre Row).

Scenic design by James J. Fenton; costume design by Patricia Doherty; lighting design by Todd Wren; and properties by Jon Knust. The Production Stage Manager is Michael Palmer.

Joel Drake Johnson (playwright) is a Chicago playwright and teacher who got his start as a writer at Chicago's critically acclaimed Econo-Art Theater which (under the leadership of Lynn Baber, Barb Reeder and Marc Silvia) produced five of his plays. THE FALL TO EARTH was originally produced at Steppenwolf Theatre. Other plays have been produced at numerous theatres including Victory Gardens Theatre, The Aurora Theatre (Berkeley, CA), Rogue Machine (LA), Penguin Rep, Stages Rep and Theatre Massbach in Germany.

Joe Brancato’s (director) Off Broadway directing credits include: Tryst (Irish Rep and Promenade Theater), The Devil’s Music: The Life And Times Of Bessie Smith (currently running at St. Luke’s Theatre), Freed (Audelco Award nominee, 59E59 Theaters), Cobb (Drama Desk winner produced by Kevin Spacey and Melting Pot in NYC and co-produced by Mr. Spacey and Garry Marshall in LA), From Door To Door, Jeffrey Solomon’s Santa Claus Is Coming Out (named Best Director by LA Scene,) One Shot, One Kill (Primary Stages), Two And A Half Jews, My Italy Story, Ricky Ian Gordon's The Matter Of Minutes, Escape From Happiness (starring Marsha Mason), The Big Swing (starring Madeline Kahn, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Marisa Tomei), Dr. Valentine’s Waltz (starring John Turturro, Laura Linney, Gina Gershon, Jane Alexander) at Naked Angels, and Hold The Wedding produced by Joseph Papp. Regional credits: George Street Playhouse, Seattle Rep, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Houston's Alley Theatre, Hartford Stage, Westport Playhouse, Merrimack Rep, Capital Rep, Boston's New Rep, Hartford Theatreworks, Cape Playhouse, Passage Theatre of Trenton and Florida Stage. Founder and Artistic Director of Penguin Rep Theatre, now in its 34th season in Stony Point, NY, where he and executive director Andrew M. Horn commissioned Allan Knee’s play The Man Who Was Peter Pan, which is the basis for the Oscar-nominated film Finding Neverland starring Johnny Depp, and where Joe has directed new works by Arthur Laurents, Ronald Harwood, William Mastrosimone, Angelo Parra, Staci Swedeen, Tom Dudzick and Richard Vetere, among many others. Playwright: Drop Dead Perfect and Mae West At The Club El Fey (book). Two-time recipient of the Rockland County Executive Arts Award for his outstanding contribution to the arts.
