The Brick and Buran Theater Presents NIGHTMARES, Now thru 1/12

The-Brick-and-Buran-Theater-Presents-NIGHTMARES-20010101

The Brickand Buran Theatre present Adam R. Burnett's theatre work NIGHTMARES: a demonstration of the Sublime. Performances will take place tonight through Saturday, January 2-5 at 8:00 pm, Sunday January 6 at 3:00 pm, and Tuesday-Saturday January 8-12at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $18.

NIGHTMARESsituates itself between terror and comedy (the sublime), beneath the gaze of Henry Fuseli's iconic painting, and in the midst of an enveloping soundscape to plumb the extremities of our contemporary condition and posit the question: are we still capable of being overwhelmed?

Initiating at the birth of the modern sublime-the summer of 1816, when literary heavyweights Lord Byron, Mary Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Jon Polidori convened on Lake Geneva to create their literary shapeshifters, namely Frankenstein's Monster and the Vampyr-the performance takes on the overwhelming anxiety of confronting nature and ourselves in the 21st century, an era that seemingly reaches for zeros.

NIGHTMARESwill be performed by Caitlin Bebb, Arla Berman, Brady Blevins, Adam R. Burnett, Sarah Graalman, Marlowe Holden, Jud Knudsen, Catrin Lloyd-Bollard, Geraldo Mercado, and Curry Whitmire.

The creative team includes Theresa Buchheister(assistant director/co-producer/choreographer), CS Luxem (composer), Nick Kostner (scenic designer), Geraldo Mercado (media designer), Ann Sitzman (lighting designer), Jud Knudsen (creative consultant), Lara Thomas Ducey (dramaturg), and Jon O'Grady/BCPrintMedia(poster design).

Buran Theatre returns to The Brick having last performed The House of Fitzcarraldoin March 2012 as the final stop of the show's tour, which included Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Topeka, and Kansas City. Buran Theatre is ensemble of disparate artists creating new works in a satellite system of communities led by writer/director Adam R. Burnett and performer Jud Knudsen. Other works include Money Buckets! (Unicorn Theatre, Kansas City), Meile be Akcento (Vilnius Chamber Theatre, Vilnius), American Mythology, Vol. 1 (Studio/Stage Theater, Los Angeles), and The Cotton Plantation by Mars Mraz (The X Theater, Albuquerque).
