The Invisible Dog Announces May Exhibitions, Films and Theater, 4/21-5/27

Openings, closings, last chances and first glances - April is ending, May is beginning. T. S. Eliot told us that April is the cruelest month, but at the Invisible Dog it isn't cruel, it's just too short! Films, readings, performances and a brand new ground floor installation will all be happening in the next 4 weeks.

EXHIBITIONS' LAST WEEKS

DISTORTING (MESSIAH PROJECT 13C) by R. JUSTIN STEWART / 365 by DANIEL HOROWITZ

THE ARTISTS OF THE INVISIBLE DOG by MALCOLM BROWN / THE DUMPSTER PROJECT by MAC PREMO

MOVIE

SATURDAY APRIL 21 - 8PM - STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

The Cine Club will show Stairway to Heaven (A Matter of Life and Death) for its fifth screening at the Invisible Dog! As always the film will be accompanied by light refreshments and followed by discussion and live music.

THEATER

APRIL 24 - 28 - 8PM - THE SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY DIRECTED by Jimmy Maize

Edgar Lee Masters' epic work , The Spoon River Anthology, will receive a staged theatrical production, conceived & directed by Jimmy Maize, with music by Eli Zoller, choreography by Jon Cooper & Marine Sialelli, and music direction by Ethan Wagner, and featuring a cast of one-hundred performers.

MOVIE

TUESDAY MAY 1 - 8PM - SULLIVAN'S TRAVEL

Sullivan is a successful, spoiled, and naive director of fluff films, with a heart-o-gold, who decides he wants to make a film about the troubles of the downtrodden poor... A Fictive Kin Movie Night.

READINGS

SATURDAY MAY 5 - MESSIAH IN BROOKLYN - PEN WORLD VOICES FESTIVAL

Writers will interact with a sculpture as they read about what we as humans are (or are not) perpetually waiting for. Jennifer Egan, Karl O. Knausgaard, Luc Sante, and others will be reading.

NEW EXHIBITION

MAY 12 - 27 - HOLY RIVER by PRUNE NOURRY

The Holy River exhibition is the culmination of a three-year project on gender selection focused on India. Mirroring the Holy Daughters exhibition that took place in 2011 in Paris around the theme of Milk, the flowing theme of this show is water. It features a selection of works inspired by a performance Prune realized last year in Kolkata. OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY MAY 12 / 6 to 10pm.

AFTER-SCHOOL

It's a new space in Brooklyn for kids to connect, create & learn after school. They work on Projects with experts in creative domains and have fun in a community of doing and making. For more information, visit www.inventgenuityworkshops.org.

FRIENDS WE LOVE

Richard Garet's new work 'Silver' unfolds throughout four tracks over the hour period with an intriguing ripple of textures and electronic sounds carefully crafted, weighed, and measured. Visit www.contoureditions.com for more information.

Painting and drawings by Gabriela Vainsencher at Recession Art at CultureFix. Opening reception on May 5. Visit www.recessionartshows.com for more information.
