
The Shelter - a New York City based indie theatre company, celebrating their fourth season producing original works of theater - will present a special preview of their upcoming theatrical event, Jonathan Ashley's LILY & KOSMO LIVE, a comedic tribute to the space operas of the '40's and '50's, scheduled to play the Connelly Theatre (220 East 4th Street) in June 2013 (dates to be announced).
The preview, which will include conceptual artwork, animation, and a sneak peek reading, is being held in conjunction with a screening of Cory McAbee's CRAZY AND THIEF, presented by IFP and reRun Theater, Sunday March 17 at 2pm at reRun Theater (147 Front Street, Brooklyn NY). In June 2013, The Shelter will present LILY & KOSMO LIVE, a comedic space opera for all ages. Performed on stage in the style of a 1950s radio drama, this special event will utilize live music and sound effects. Join Lily Lupino and Kosmo Kidd as they skip across the universe in this one-of-a-kind adventure. Cast and specific dates are TBA.
LILY & KOSMO LIVE is made possible in part with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by New York State Council on the Arts and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
The Shelter (theshelternyc.org), under the guidance of Artistic Directors Meghan Jones and Michael Kingsbaker and Executive Director Dave Lankford, is a family of artists creating original theatre for the New York stage. All productions are written, directed, and acted by its members and are developed through the company's weekly Shelter Sunday workshop series. The heartbeat of The Shelter, Shelter Sunday provides a safe harbor where New York's top emerging theatrical artists can collaboratively challenge themselves to explore their artistry and hone their respective crafts.
