Tonya Pinkins Headlines Jazz Jam During Winter Rhythms

On Wednesday, December 7 at 7PM, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins will headline Barry Levitt’s Jazz Jam along with as Mary Foster Conklin, Cleve Douglass, and Kat Gang. This performance is part of Urban Stages’ two week musical celebration entitled WINTER RHYTHMS. WINTER RHYTHMS is presented by Urban Stages, (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director), and director/lyricist Peter Napolitano. Musical Director, Barry Levitt has been an active, forceful, award-winning presence within the New York musical community for over three decades. He was the music director and arranger for Catskills On Broadway and Swinging On A Star on Broadway as well as Langston in Harlem, Little Shop Of Horrors and Taking My Turn Off-Broadway. Tonya Pinkins is a Tony award winning actress. Who has been nominated for her roles in Caroline or Change, Play On and Jelly’s Last Jam. She won for Jelly. In addition to the Tony award, Tonya has received the Obie, Drama Critic’s Circle, Clarence Derwent, Lortel, Garland, Black theater Alliance and Audelco awards, She has been nominated for the Olivier, Joseph Jefferson, NAACP Theater Award, Soap opera Digest, La drama critics and Ovation nominations. She has appeared on Television in “24,” “Law and Order,” “The Closer,” “Criminal Minds,” “Cold Case,” “All My Children,” “As the World Turns” and many others. Her film credits include Disney’s ENCHANTED and Noah’s Arc: Jumping The Broom. She is the author of Hyperion’s GET OVER YOURSELF: How to drop the Drama and Claim the life you Deserve.

WINTER RHYTHMS, marks the third year that Urban Stages has brought noted musical artists to its stage during the holiday period. Proceeds from the musical series helps to fund Urban Stages’ Outreach Program that brings over 300 free “arts in education” presentations to libraries and schools throughout the five boroughs.

WINTER RHYTHMS will close with the celebrated cabaret entertainer Steve Ross on Sunday, December 11, followed by a with a champagne reception and supper. Tickets for the closing night celebration are $75.
