Wandering Bark Theatre Company Presents THE SEAGULL at Secret Theatre, 9/5-25

Wandering BArk Theatre Company and Jack Sharkey present THE SEAGULL by Anton Chekhov, in a new translation by Graham Schmidt, directed by Christopher Diercksen and produced by Joseph Mitchell Parks, Valerie Redd and Jack Sharkey. The show will run September 5-15, 2012, at The Secret Theatre.

The New York premiere of Graham Schmidt’s new translation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, a play following a family of 19th Century Russian artists and non-artists depicts a timeless portrait of art and the need to communicate. Through the lens of the roaring American 1920's, this production attempts to break open and examine our inescapable battle to compare ourselves and our work, and the powerful effects of unfulfilled desire.

The cast features Bob C. Armstrong*, Michael Bartoli*, Jacob Green, Peter Herrick*, Jonathan Holtzman*, Carol Jacobanis*, Kathleen Marsh*, Joseph Mitchell Parks*, Valerie Redd*, Samantha Fairfield Walsh and Curry Whitmire.

Produced by Wandering BArk Theatre Company, The Seagull features Video Design by Stephen Bowlby, Lighting Design by Alana Jacoby, Scenice Design by Jacquelyn D. Marolt, Costume Design by Kirsten Singer, and Sound Design by Mark Van Hare, with Production Stage Manager Yvonne Hartung.

The Seagull plays weekdays and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 6pm. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/264071 or by calling 1-800-838-3006. The Secret Theatre is located at 4402 23rd St., Long Island City, NY.

Christopher Diercksen (Director) specializes in developing and directing new plays. Recent Production Credits: Christopher Marlowe's Chloroform Dreams by Katharine Sherman; The Henchmen by Bryce Norbitz; Othello, by William Shakespeare; Ampersand: A Romeo and Juliet Story By Mariah MacCarthy. As Literary Manager for Lunar Energy Productions, he runs MOONSHINE: a quarterly play development reading series: In Antarctica, Where It Is Very Warm by Jona Tarlin; Dreams Of The Penny Gods by Callie Kimball. In October, he is directing By Rights We Should Be Giants presented by Lunar Energy Productions. Christopher trained at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and is a graduate of Albright College.

Under the leadership of Artistic Directors Joseph Mitchell Parks and Valerie Redd, Wandering BArk Theatre Company launched its inaugural season last fall with their reinvention of Othello, depicting returning U.S. Afghanistan veterans. This season will be no less innovative with the premiere of a new translation of one of the most famous classical plays, The Seagull.
