Bad week for "Peter and the Starcatcher", "How to Succeed...", "The Lyons" and "Seminar".

"Magic/Bird" will close soon.

@willep
Who ever thought Peter and the Starchatcher was going to be an instant hit was crazy, that rarely ever happens with shows especially with plays, unless you have an all hollywood cast...Fences, Death of a Salesman, A View from the Bridge, Waiting for Godot, also notice these are all revivals, hopefully PETER AND THE STARCATCHER will slowly gain momentum because it will never b a runaway hit...I honestly loved the show..I just know its tough sell

bdn223, Just as I was composing my thoughts, you beat me to it... I couldn't agree more! I have no personal feelings for or against PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, but I think it will have a tough time surviving on Broadway. Ticket prices seem to remain a volatile issue on this board, but I think PETER is the perfect example of a show that has a very hard time competing in such a high-priced, competitive marketplace.

The week before last was spring break, y'all. So the numbers will, of course, be lower this week.

Nice Work is certainly posting good numbers for previews despite the lack of buzz and opening cold on Broadway.

shows are showing a drop as this was the post-spring break numbers. people went back to work/school, numbers for some shows should start to climb in the coming weeks.

Peter & The Starcatcher needs better marketing material. Why aren't they playing up the whole "Prequel to Peter Pan" aspect to get the kids and families in the doors? The commercial I saw did not show any actual footage of the show. Why not show some of the musical numbers or the clever staging we here so much about?

I'm fairly sure all of the performances for Magic/Bird last week were comped. That's how I ended up seeing it. I don't know how many tickets were distributed like that. But, the Wednesday matinee was pretty empty in the orchestra. I'm afraid what the other levels were like.

yes, but it is not fair that top ticket price exceeds 125.00. I think more people would go seeshows if it was not so overhyped. London actually has that over on us here in NY. London is accessible to EVERYONE, not just tourists who will spend 125+ for a ticket. It's a shame for good shows that are just funny nice times out, such as one man two gouvnors, its a great night at the theater but i donot think it is worth 250+ for 2 people to go. i think it hurts those kinds of shows. Good thing for venues such as TDF and other discount ticket places.

If those GHOST numbers don't start picking up I think it is going to close in the Fall.

They are papering a lot if I'm not mistaken for previews. The upcoming weeks will really show its fate.

Huss417--yes,that is correct for How to Succeed. Last week and this week, they'll have 9 performances. Nick Jonas had a previously scheduled conflict (he was a groomsman in the wedding for a member of his band) and instead of sending the understudy out they just did not have any performances on 4/14. They made the missed performances up by doing 2PM & 8PM shows on 4/15 and 4/22.

I saw and thoroughly enjoyed Peter while it was still in preview. However, both my partner and I agreed that much of the material is not suitable for children and/or is just above the heads of the pre-10 set.

@theaterfangirl

Thanks for the info on that. I wonder if they would have just been better off with the understudy based on the %'s?

Top price (excluding premium, which actually much of the stalls are) on Ghost is £67.50 which on todays rate is $104 plus fees, so London isn't that far behind New York on costs
