MAGIC/BIRD might have enough NBA money to keep it going through the summer. STREETCAR seems possible as it's on TDF for the next few weeks and received only a nomination for Best Costumes today.

Did Seminar recoup? It had a nice run with Rickman. I only wonder if recasting ended up taking a greater financial toll.

had a feeling this one would be one of the first to post a notice, from what i've heard the audience all but disappeared after Alan Rickman left, & no major nods today was the nail in the coffin.

I really liked the show when I saw Rickman in it. I'd been meaning to go back and see it with Goldblum. Too bad the audience dissolved so quickly!

Someone else pointed it out here, but it's an example of a cast having an affect on the play. It was an excellent original cast with Rickman, Rabe, etc. and their great abilities were able to somewhat cover the flaws in the play. When they put in a new cast of people who weren't quite as good as the original cast, it exposed every flaw in the play.

it's true, same thing, to an extent, happened with Spring Awakening. Granted, they were also a victim of the struggling economy, but they also replaced almost every major character at the same time (minus the 3 leads) which is a tough thing to do & not have some financial backlash

@frogs_fan I believe that Streetcars run cost is low enough that its not in trouble at the moment....

Always find it interesting here that someone will post something that's flawed or misinformed opinion and often it's embraced as the gospel truth.

There were few few nights at SEMINAR when the audience wasn't genuinely jumping to its feet at the beginning of the curtain call in appreciation for the play and actors, sensational ensemble work, both with the original cast and replacement cast. And many thought the play worked better with the second cast. JUSTIN LONG was making a remarkable Broadway debut and let's hope he comes back to the Great White Way.

SEMINAR had a respectable run. ALAN RICKMAN, LILY RABE & HAMISH LINKLATER all gave Tony nominee-worthy performances, but often a show opening in November is forgotten at the end of the season. And if anyone believes the Tony nominators are about acknowledging excellence without other specific self-serving agendas, then you're not being very realistic.

SEMINAR's new cast was fighting a losing battle against too many shows at the end of the season and it's always unfortunate when a cast and crew, a house staff, everyone involved with a show has to say goodbye. No one should take pleasure in that.

I think if a cast change can be the downfall of a show, then it really points to the fact that the show isn't that good.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'll take Jeff Goldblum over Rickman any day. Saw the show a couple of weeks ago and thought Goldblum was very effective, as was the rest of the cast, notably Justin Long.

Saw it with Rickman. Didn't think there was much of a play there for anyone to work with.
