One that I would like to see would be an introduction of each of the Best Actor/Actress in a Play/Musical nominees like they have done at the Academy Awards with past winners speaking about each of the nominees. I'm sure there are other things, but this was the first one that popped into my head. Any ideas or thoughts?
Tonys don't do well in ratings, are only on CBS as a charity. They are not going todo something that is going to make it cost more...or go longer. They don't even hand out all the categories in Prime.
I always found that part of the Oscars boring. The change I would like would be performances from the plays, but that probably won't happen any time soon.
I'd like the star presenting the Tony be someone who was snubbed this yeaar. Say, Laroquette handing out Best Actor in a Play. THAT would be fun to watch.
When they've done scenes from plays it BOMBS. Scenes from plays do not work out of context. Even if they did a powerful scene you'd be wondering why this crazy woman was screaming at her mother to "Eat the fish, bitch!"
A couple of years ago they had Nathan Lane and Bebe Newirth present best actor/actress in a musical and they played up the joke that they weren't nominated for "The Addams Family" that year.
There's nothing they can do to increase ratings drastically. Celebrity presenters mean virtually nothing. I mean I am obsessed with Drag Race and Community but I'm not going to watch the ESPN awards if Joel Mchale and William present because I have no interest in sports. Fans of the Big Bang Theory won't watch the Tony's just to see Jim Parsons give Audra McDonald a statue.
Playbilly, that happened a few years ago with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth!! I thought their banter there was funnier than anything in The Addams Family...
