Get "her" Tony? Like it's been deprived of her for years now? She's great but let's wait and see how her performance is. The Bakers Wife is one of the trickiest roles in all of American Musical Theatre to pull off and even some really great actresses can't get it right.
And I am certain that whoever is cast as the Baker will definitely win the Tony- and the Oscar when they decide to film the production as I am certain they will.
No doubt about it! There will be no other musicals next season with any other lead actress roles. Heck, Into the Woods won't even have to transfer and Amy will win a Tony. She's THAT good in the part already! Anyone who doesn't think so is just jealous and has no class. Amy Adams is a LOCK.
"Why is the baker's wife one of the trickiest roles in Musical theatre?"
I second this and would love to see a thread on what IS a tricky role. I imagine Spiderman must have tricky roles given the setup.
The Baker's Wife is a probably one of the better roles in the show. She has a good arc, her songs are meaningful and she gets some good jokes. Adams will be micced and we've heard her sing.
I think the role is tricky because Joanna Gleason did such an interesting job in the original and the performance was videotaped so everybody can compare later performers to Gleason's version.
