New York Madness (NYM) is about to start its Fourth Season. With a focus on emerging writers, NYM hosts a hot night of short plays based on a theme proposed by the more established Featured Guest. The Theme is announced one week prior to the event.

Performances begin in just five weeks for the third annual Next Up, continuing Steppenwolf Theatre Company's commitment to Chicago's next generation of theater artists. Next Up features three productions presented in rotating repertory, in collaboration with Northwestern University's MFA programs in Direction and Design. Next Up 2013 showcases the work of graduates of those programs with casts of professional Chicago actors-including nine alumni of the School at Steppenwolf: Fat Pig by Neil LaBute, directed by David Prete; The Drunken City by Adam Bock, directed by Johnny Michael DiResta; and The Internationalist by Anne Washburn, directed by Erin Murray. Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced casting for the upcoming third annual Next Up, continuing Steppenwolf's commitment to Chicago's next generation of theater artists.

Miranda Jonte's world premiere play, Greasemonkey, pays homage to her northern Californian roots, and is inspired by the modern day love poetry of Alice Walker, Noel Coward and James Tipton. Stephen Brotebeck (Movement Associate, Peter and the Starcatcher; Director, 29 Lives, New York Theatre Barn) will direct the production, which runs February 13 through 24, 2013 at the Robert Moss Theater at 440 Studios (440 Lafayette Street, near East 7th Street).

The Theatre at the Duke Ellington Center for the Arts will present its first Theatrical Salon on Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Prince George Ballroom, 15 East 27th Street. The Theatrical Salon Series will introduce four theatrical events a year. These presentations are designed to give new works a forum for their future efforts.
