Provocative New Play on Animals on Trial Comes to John Jay Theater, Nov. 29 & 30

A multitude of the most curious chapters from 500+ years of animal trials will take center stage in late November at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College with excerpts from 'The Tragical-Comical Trial Trial of Madame P and Other 4-Legged and Winged Creatures,' a multi-media phantasmagoria-in-progress by award-winning playwright Susan Yankowitz. The play is widely interdisciplinary, engaging themes of animal rights and law, criminal justice, philosophy and ethics. The concluding event of John Jay's annual Art of Justice Series, it will be presented on Monday and Tuesday, November 29 and 30 at 7:00pm. The Gerald W. Lynch Theater is located at John Jay College, 899 Tenth Avenue, NYC. Village Theater presented their "Village Originals 10th Annual Festival of New Musicals" over the weekend presenting 6 new musicals from up and coming writers and composers. Fostering the advancement of new works, the festival boasts the early stages of shows that have gone on for full mainstage runs ("The Gypsy King", "Chasing Nicolette", "Stunt Girl", "Iron Curtain") as well as a few which have recently gone on to Broadway runs ("Million Dollar Quartet" and the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning "Next to Normal"). So getting in at these early stages is a real treat and you never know what future hit smash you might see.

The Annual Festival of New Musicals has become a jumping off point for a number of Village Theatre's most popular new works. Leading writers and producers from across the world come together for this invite-only event to be part of the process of developing new musicals. Since 2001, the Village Originals Festival has developed over 50 new musicals and worked with over 100 authors.

The authors of the new musical 'Buddy's Tavern,' winner of Curtain Call's 2010 American Harmony Prize, are going to have to clear a little more room on their mantles. Yesterday, it was announced that 'Buddy's Tavern' has also been named by the Acardemy of Arts and Letters as the winner of the 2010 Richard Rodgers Award, one of the most prestigious honors given to developing works of musical theater. In addition to recognition, the Richard Rodgers Award carries with it funding for reading and productions of the winner musical. 'Buddy's Tavern' was written by Raymond DeFelitta, Alison Louise Hubbard and Kim Oler. A concert reading of songs and scenes from the show will be presented at Curtain Call's next Musical Mondays evening, scheduled for Monday, February 22, starring Broadway performer Michael Iannucci (Fiddler on the Roof) in the title role.

Casting has been completed for the Musical Mondays @ Curtain Call's Monday, February 22, presentation of "Buddy's Tavern," winner of the Stamford, CT, based theater's 2010 American Harmony Prize. Leading the cast in the title role is Michael Iannucci (Fiddler on the Roof), joined by Rebecca Barko (The Enchanted Cottage), Andrea Biachi (Being Audrey) and Alan H. Green (Play On), with Jerold Goldstein (How to Succeed), Piper Goodeve (Anne of Green Gables), Patti Mariano (42nd Street) , John Marion (The Enchanted Cottage) and Ted Yudain (The Ha Ha Club). Direction is by Brett A. Bernardini and music direction is by Bradley Vieth.
