Valley Youth Theatre seeks an experienced Costume Director.
Ideal Candidate: Must be detail-oriented and remain focused in a fast-paced working environment with some non-traditional hours. This strategic position is responsible for the coordination of all costumes in Valley Youth Theatre’s season, with some design opportunities, while developing and maintaining a cognitive and cohesive shop staff.
Job Duties/Expectations include (but are not limited to):
• Supervise entire shop staff including Costume Shop Supervisor, Stitchers and Over-hires.
• Oversee all in-house built pieces. Show appearance.
• Act as Costume Coordinator for any rental packages.
• Arrange/attend fittings and take notes.
• Work in collaboration with guest designers, creative teams and production crew for ultimate show appearance.
• Note shows during tech processes.
• Assist load-in/load-out, packing, and organization of costumes or rental package for each run.
• Supervise purchasing of costume shop materials, supplies and equipment.
• Manage and update costume inventories of stock items.
• Maintain a clean, organized and positive working environment.
• Develop paperwork, in collaboration with Wardrobe Supervisor, for each show including look lists, costume/scene breakdown and entrance/exit and quick-change plots.
• Hands-on costume maintenance during each shows run.
• Job requires ability to sit/stand for long periods of time and bend, stoop, or kneel while assisting actors, staff and designer in execution of duties as assigned.
• Job requires ability to lift, carry and move costumes and necessary equipment up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions.
• Unconventional hours may be required.
Qualifications:
B.F.A. in Costume Design Required OR Five years plus experience leading a professional costume department.
